Bedroom Organization DIY: 10 Brilliant Bookshelf Ideas

Wintertime finds many of us wanting to stay indoors more; and curling up in a cozy corner with a good book is a great pastime for this cold season. This winter may be the perfect time to embark on a project to make more room for some good books by building a unique bookshelf. Here are 10 brilliant bookshelf ideas that will bring the fun back into your bedroom organization. These shelves are so cool that you will actually enjoy putting your books back on them when you are finished.

1. DIY Tree Bookshelf

What’s not to love about this really cool bookshelf tree? The best part is that you can make it yourself! If you want to know how, take a look at the video below to get step by step instructions. This amazing design comes from Pinterest but was originally from Instructables.

2. Think Outside The Box

Normally when we think of a bookshelf, a big rectangular box shape comes to mind. But who says that’s the only way that you can display your books? Take a look at this funky and non-traditional twist on a bookshelf for your bedroom that we found on Pinterest but was originally from Dwell Beautiful. We especially like the inverted triangle one with the white painted set of antlers, perfect for organizing your jewelry as an accent.

3. Horizontal Heaven

We love the zen-like feeling of this combination of bookshelves. The horizontal orientation of the books is only a small part of the appeal of this design found on  Pinterest from Magazine Feed. The ladder used to drape books or magazines as easily as you would a towel adds a relaxed yet organized sense to the space.

4. Surround A Window

What a great way to entice your children to read – set up a bookshelf area where they will want to hang out with their books. This enticing design incorporates a cozy window seat complete with plenty of extra storage space for dozens of books and school supplies cleverly organized in decorative wicker baskets. This bright and inviting space was found on Pinterest but it originally came from Sand and Sisal.

5. Stairway to Knowledge

Now here’s another new take on the bookshelf. A shelf of stairs to hold your books. This novel idea came from Pinterest and was originally found on BookBub. To further organize your bedroom reading times, place your books in alphabetical order and then work your way through from top to bottom.

6. Half Moon Design

We discovered this next awesome bookshelf idea on Pinterest and it came from pionik.com. The lovely half moon design looks amazing in the corner of this loft bedroom. The gorgeous natural wood grain shaped into smooth curved, half-moon panels give a wonderfully organic feeling to the design.

7. Optical Illusion

It’s hard to tell where the corner starts and the walls begin in this neat optical illusion bookshelf design. The use of the corner is also a great way to maximize every inch of space if you have a small or overcrowded bedroom. This design is courtesy of home-and-garden.livejournal.com and we found it pinned on Pinterest.

8. Bookcase/Table Combination

If you enjoy do-it-yourself projects and you are short on storage space in your bedroom, why not try making your own bookcase that can double as a night table? It even has castors so you can roll it out of the way when you are not using it. The complete instructions from Small Town Craft Fair can be found by clicking here.

9. Tight Spaces

Are you trying to make the most of a tiny space? It can be a challenge. Using a bookshelf to divide your bedroom and living area is a great way to separate these two spaces. This idea came from Pinterest and was pinned from apartmenttherapy.com.

10. Sliding Bookshelves
